SEMINAR ON RADON AND OTHER NATURAL RADIONUCLIDES RESEARCH IN MALAYSIA

6-7 AUGUST 2008
UNIVERSITI SAINS ISLAM MALAYSIA (USIM)
NILAI, NEGERI SEMBILAN

THEME
SECURING A BETTER ENVIRONMENT FOR LIFE

The seminar is going to be a platform for researchers in this field to present, discuss and find resolution to their studies on how to improve the quality of life by reducing exposure and health risk to radon and its progeny as well as other natural radionuclides radiation.

BACKGROUND
Lately, issues related to radon (radioactive gas) and natural radionuclide emitted from the surrounding especially building materials were discussed and becoming an important issue in the developed countries. They are concern about the health risk related to the indoor air quality. In this country, we are still neglecting the importance of this issue, but fortunately, some researches have been carried out by researchers from universities and research institutions such as Malaysian Nuclear Agency, UiTM, UKM, USM, UM, UTM and UMT. Their research findings were published in various local and international journals. Perhaps now is the right time for such research and their respective findings to give some impact onto the government and related authorities on the importance of this issue to be handle with great concern since it involve public at large.

OBJECTIVES
i) to provide a platform for discussion and exchange of ideas and findings for researchers in the country who are involve in radon and natural radionuclide studies
ii) to compiles all the findings for formulating the mitigating action to reduce the health risk of ionizing radiations
iii) to form an expert group who can champion the related issues in the future
